OHS in the Office

This course will provide you with knowledge of the legal requirements and basic principles and practices relating to Occupational Health and Safety in your work environment.

At the successful completion of this course you should be able to:

  • Outline employee responsibilities, rights and obligations relating to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Identify potential hazards in an office environment and suggest remedial actions.
  • Identify the causes of occupational overuse injuries of office workers and outline preventative measures.

There are no set time expectations for completion of this course. The course is designed to be self-paced and you should navigate through at your own rate. If you work through the course without a break, you should be able to complete it within one to one and one-half hours. There are three sections in this course (excluding overview), which may be completed separately. These sections typically require around 45 minutes to complete

This Privacy course is designed to help employees understand the New Privacy Regime introduced by the Privacy Amendment Act that came into force on 21 December 2001. The privacy regime sets standards for the way Australian private sector organisations handle and manage personal information about individuals.

On completion of this course you will:

  1. Understand the 10 National Privacy Principles
  2. Understand your obligations as an employee to uphold the Principles
  3. Be able to apply the National Privacy Principles in particular situations in your workplace.

OHS Machinery and Equipment Safety

Overview

Machinery and equipment are used in a variety of workplace settings. Improper installation, operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment can lead to serious injury or death.

This course provides an overview of safe practices related to the operation of machinery and equipment. It is designed as an awareness program and is suitable for all staff who are exposed to machinery and equipment, including supervisors and team leaders. It may be undertaken as a separate short course, or combined with other courses as part of a broader program of occupational health and safety.

Objectives

This course is designed to provide you with an understanding of the basic hazards and control strategies associated with safe operation of machinery and equipment.

On completion of this course you should understand:

  • the importance of guards and other safety devices for certain types of equipment
  • the need to properly de-energise machinery and equipment before performing service or repair work
  • the need to carry out periodic risk (hazard) assessment, and follow-up action.
